Who We Are
We’re a family. A group of Christians dedicated to serving God. Our family began in Camas in 1953. In 1973 we moved to our current location in Washougal. We are in the midst of a spiritual makeover, working to supplant old traditions with original and pure biblical Christianity. Our emphasis is to better understand, follow, and teach Jesus, along with the principles he taught about love, mercy, forgiveness, and liberty through Him.
We believe in God. God created heaven and earth. He created mankind in his likeness and designed the way for all people to live with him eternally. That way is through his son Jesus.
Jesus came to earth, lived a sinless life, and was crucified so that all people everywhere would have the hope of salvation. After 3 days in the grave Jesus resurrected from the dead. In the days that followed, He met with many of his followers and told his 12 disciples to remain in Jerusalem and “wait for the gift my Father promised.” (Acts 1:4)
During this time Jesus also told his disciples, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
After 40 days, Jesus ascended into heaven to be with His Father. A short time later in Jerusalem, the Kingdom of Heaven came with power and the disciples received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. On that day, the apostle Peter preached a sermon declaring that “God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” (Acts 2:36)
“When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2:37-38)
Through baptism, Christians have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives us the comfort and guidance necessary for salvation. Our aim is to live Spirit-filled lives reflecting his character of “love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23)
We seek to be the church that was planned by God, built by Christ, and guided by the Holy Spirit. We completely believe that the bible is the holy and inspired word of God. We believe that absolute truth is simple, knowable, and has been revealed to us through the Bible. We believe in the awesome power of prayer.
We try to be real. As humans, we all have our struggles. In the church it is very important that we don’t pretend to be perfect. Instead, we must be willing to be vulnerable with one another so that we can help each other through our struggles. This requires an attitude of unconditional love and genuine concern for our brothers and sisters. It also requires that, while not accepting sin, we refrain from judging each other. This includes the silent judgement of self-righteousness.
